Everything about Smart Home lighting

In more and more households, so-called smart devices or smart home systems are being used. These are devices that enable a form of communication via Wi-Fi. The most commonly used smart home device is smart lighting. Nowadays, smart lighting comes in all kinds of shapes and sizes. In this blog, we’ll tell you more about it!

What is smart home lighting?

Smart home lighting is lighting that you can control using an app or handy accessories. This control takes place via Wi-Fi. In its simplest form, you can only switch smart home lighting on and off remotely. Nowadays, however, there are also more and more smart lights that you can dim remotely, as well as lights whose light color you can change remotely. At Qub, we sell both smart lights and smart fixtures.

Smart lights

Smart lights are lights that you can simply screw into an existing fixture and that connect with each other, as well as with, for example, an app on your phone or a special hub. You can switch these lights on and off remotely, dim them, and often adjust the light color as well. These types of smart lights are often available in all common fittings, such as Smart E27 or Smart GU10. Do make sure that you don’t screw your smart lights into a fixture that blocks Wi-Fi signals: these types of fixtures unfortunately interrupt the connection. We are often asked whether our fixtures block the wireless connection of smart lighting. The good news is that, despite their aluminum housing, smart lights work well with our fixtures! The product description will often also state whether the fixture is suitable for smart home lighting.

Smart fixtures

At Qub, we also sell smart fixtures with integrated LED lighting. For example, take a look at our Tram recessed spotlights. These sturdy and modern recessed spotlights can be controlled using the so-called Tuya Smart system, which allows you to control all the lights using an app on your smartphone. This means you don’t have to get up from the couch to dim the lighting, and you can adjust the color of the lighting to suit the atmosphere of the room in no time.

Smart dimmers

Finally, at Qub we also sell smart dimmers. You install these dimmers in much the same way as a regular dimmer, but they have the added benefit of being controllable with your smartphone . These dimmers work well with all kinds of smart home apps, such as the Calex app, as well as Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant/Google Home. Do you have questions about which type of dimmer is best suited to your system? We understand. You can always contact our employees. They’ll be happy to help and advise you on which dimmer is best for you.

Installing smart home lighting

Fortunately, most smart lighting is not difficult to install at all. You screw smart lights into the fitting in the same way as a “regular” light bulb. Smart fixtures often only need power, so you don’t have to connect them to the internet with a cable. Smart dimmers are generally installed in much the same way as regular dimmers. The installation of the control system differs from one system to another, but is often clearly explained in a manual
