A well-designed home office starts with the right setup. Since you spend a significant part of your day there, it’s essential to create a comfortable and pleasant workspace. With these tips, you’ll feel right at home in your home office!

Proper Lighting

Good lighting is essential for your workspace. It helps you concentrate better and gives you more energy. This positively impacts your mood, allowing you to perform at your best. In addition, proper lighting ensures sufficient visibility, enabling you to complete your tasks comfortably without distractions.

Combining Different Light Sources

The best lighting for your home office is a combination of natural daylight and artificiallight. It’s also beneficial to alternate between direct and indirect lighting. Ideally, position your desk next to a window to maximise daylight exposure and provide a relaxing view. Studies have shown that looking at nature can help reduce stress. Additionally, giving your eyes some rest by looking into the distance from time to time is beneficial. A win-win situation!

LED spotlights, pendant lights, or wall lamps are generally suitable as indirect room lighting. When your desk is positioned near a window, you often won’t need additional lighting on bright days. However, a desk lamp can provide great visibility in the evening or serve as effective task lighting. Since a desk lamp directs light straight onto the work surface, even a small amount of light can significantly improve visibility.

Light Output

Lamps with sufficient light output are crucial for a comfortable home office. But what are the right light levels? For workspaces, a lux level of around 500 lx is recommended. To ensure good visibility, you can opt for a lamp with a widebeam to illuminate the entire room or focus task lighting directly on the desk. The best option depends on your personal preference.

Colour Temperature

The colour temperature also significantly affects the atmosphere of your home office. A neutral, fresh colour temperature can enhance alertness and concentration. Choosing a colour temperature between 3500 and 4000 Kelvin creates a brightlook without making your home office feel too clinical or uninviting.

Ergonomics and Movement

Finally, it’s important to consider ergonomic aspects in your home office. A good office chair works wonders for your posture and concentration. Additionally, don’t forget to step away from your screen from time to time. Aim to take a short walk every 2 to 3 hours. This not only improves your focus but also helps keep your body healthy and free from discomfort. Exposure to daylight in the afternoon can also improve your sleep quality at night—something well deserved after a productive day of working from home!
