Required Tools:
Installing track lighting is manageable, but it's useful to have experience with light fixture installations. If you're unsure, it's best to seek advice from a professional. You can easily find help with lighting installation on Werkspot.
Cutting Track Lighting to Size
Measuring & Preparing
When measuring the track lighting, consider that some connectors, feed-in points, or accessories may add or reduce length. Find all dimensions here: measuring track lighting.
Creating an End Notch for the Connector
The end of the track usually has a notch allowing the connector to slide in. When cutting a track to size, this notch is removed. You can easily recreate it by using pliers to cut out a small centre strip from the rail. Use the removed section as a guide to replicate the shape on the cut end.
Without this notch, the connector will not fully insert into the track, leading to unsafe conditions.
Marking and Securing
How to Mount the Track to the Ceiling
Select the appropriate plugs for your ceiling type.
Hold the first track against the ceiling and mark the screw holes. Ensure you also account for the length of the power feed for accurate placement at the power point. You can pre-attach the power feed and then mark its position against the ceiling. Working with two people is recommended for easier installation.
Connecting and Linking
How to Connect the Power Feed
The power feed allows electricity to flow from the ceiling into your track. Open the power feed cover with a screwdriver to access the terminals marked L / N:
- L = Brown/Black
- N = Blue
- The third wire (yellow/green) is for grounding the track and track spotlights.
How to Connect the Centre Feed (Optional)
Unscrew the plastic cover of the centre feed. Connect your ceiling wires to one side of the centre feed. The existing internal wires should remain, as they distribute power to both left and right sections of the track.
Each L and N terminal will have two wires: one from the ceiling and one from the centre feed.
How the Connectors Work
Loosen the screw on the connector to slide it into the rail. Keep pressure on the opposite side to prevent it from slipping out during installation. Ensure the copper strips inside the connector make full contact with the copper conductors inside the track for proper electrical connection. Once inserted, tighten the screw.
Installing the GU10 Light Source in the Focus III Track Spots
Note: Do not use halogen bulbs. Our track spots are only compatible with modern LED GU10 bulbs.
Connecting a Track Spot to a Single-phase Track
Installing a Single-phase Pendant Light Adapter
Unscrew the two screws at the bottom. Inside the housing, you’ll find screw terminals for Phase (Brown), Neutral (Blue), and Ground (Green/Yellow). Connect these to the pendant light you wish to mount on your track.
Single-phase Track Lighting Installation Guide
Important: It is essential to use a grounding wire when installing a power track. Consider the placement of the grounding wire in the track. Depending on whether the wire runs left or right, you will need a specific connector. For a straight track section, the side of the grounding wire is less critical, as you can simply rotate the track to match your chosen connection.
